GODDA APPO BY SOBHA P. SHENOI

KONKANI TRADITIONAL DISH GODDA (JAGGERY ) APPAM...!!!!


GODDA APPAM/APPO

INGREDIENTS :

250 gms of White Rice
2 medium sized jaggery
2 palayam thodan pazham(a commonly available plantain in kerala)
1 spoon of Sugar
6-7 elachi(cardamom)
a pinch of baking soda.

METHOD :

Soak the white rice for about 2.5 hours.Transfer the rice to a mixer and pulse for a few seconds .Add grated jaggery , palayam thodan pazham,elachi powder one by one,

Grind the mixture into a smooth batter not too runny nor too thick(similar to that of dosa).Add a spoon of sugar and pinch of baking soda,wait for 10 mins . 

Give a good stir to the batter.
Unniappam is prepared in a traditional Unniappam pan or Unniappam chatti.
pour enough ghee to the pan ,it should cover the entire pan.

Once oil starts boiling , pour batter to each holes ,cook until unniappam starts coming off the hole on its own and turn brownish Now turn them upside down and let the other side get cooked.

Drain on paper towels and serve .
